Last night Rat City (which is the number 1 team in the nation right now...) had it's annual fundraiser where the traveling team plays itself. And for the halftime show, they got a bunch of idiot guys to put on blue and red dresses/skirts and play a 15 minute bout. A "Boy Bout" as they call it.

This is a test. It is only a test. If this were a real post it would have included content. Not a link to some chick licking an AppleTV.

We had a pretty good derby practice last night.  About 6 refs from RCRG (rat city roller girls / aka seattle) + the regional ref coordinator came up to our practice to let the girls know about rule specifics and to answer questions.  Then we had some good practice bouts, where myself and the other JCRG refs shadowed the RCRG refs around the track.

Talk about crazyness.  It's super hard to keep track of what all is going on, and knowing what to call and what not to, signaling penalties to the penalty box... and then you get to dodge each other and falling girls.

After a couple of jams, I stopped shadowing the refs, and started calling out fouls and kicking out girls.

That's right, I've got the official whistle.  I've the ref shirt.  I've got (imagine a Cartman voice here) AUTHROATIE AUTHORI-TA (thanks Buzz!).

We had a new drill tonight at derby practice (I'm a ref in case ya' didn't know).

Ever wanted to play dodge ball on rollerskates?  That's pretty much what we did for about 15 minutes.

Imagine 35 girls (and 3 guys) going around and around on a skate rink, just trying to peg each other with those big bouncy balls.  And then when you get hit, you gotta sit.  So now you have to dodge people as well as the balls.

I got pretty good at it, and some of the girls were yelling out "get the baron! get the baron!".  They wanted revenge and to take me out.

I'm lethal at derby dodge ball.  Lethal and sore.

So last night was a joint Everett and Seattle derby meetup.  About once a month, Rat City (Seattle) comes up to Everett to practice with us, and once a month we go down there.  It's amusing to see the number of skater girls double in a single night.

Last night was also "Plyometrics" night, where the girls do strange exercises, as dictated by Kirstin since she's the resident PT.  And since there were twice as many girls... it was twice as funny.  At one point Kirstin had them doing frog leaps over each other from one end of the rink to the other.  When it was all over, I accused her of making them doing something that wasn't in any of her books.

Very true.  I wish I had a video of it.
